A walk in the sun
Today I took a walk in the sun. I guess February means the beginning of spring here. It feels like I haven't done much wandering lately (too busy - weird, huh?), and despite the mild winter here, I feel like I haven't seen the sun in awhile.
This is an old air raid shelter/bunker. On the side is some of the graffitti that makes me love Berlin. You can't see it that well, but it says Wer Bunker baut wirft Bomben (those who build bunkers throw bombs). Right next to it is a nice little playground, a fact which seems especially peculiar knowing that this building also houses Berlin's Gruselkabinett. One part haunted house stuff, one part cheaply replicated medieval medical stuff, and one part historical information about bunkers in Berlin. I didn't go in, and judging by the webpage, I might just skip it.Turrets make me happy.
This might be the entrance to another bunker (or a secret garden!), but I couldn't tell. The door is about 4 feet high, and in a wall that has no other (obvious) entrances for a block in either direction.
Since moving into my apartment across from the canal, I've developed a great deal of affection for Berlin's bridges. This is a bridge over the canal between Moeckernbruecke and Gleisdreieck stations. Although you can't see it, the heavy cement and brick is supporting bridge made out of really pretty red-painted wrought iron vines and flowers.

Remember that book Little Big you gave me? That tiny door reminds me of it. If you haven't read it, you should. That could be the door to a whole new, very strange, magical realism/fantasy world...
