The universal noodle
I've been craving ramen lately, partly because I have a slightly upset stomach (hopefully just from being so tired), partly because of the cold rainy weather. I like the mushroom flavor, with a handful of frozen peas thrown in for extra nurtitional value. Unfortunately for me, the ramen here is not the Top Ramen I ate in college, nor is it as cheap as the ramen I ate in college. Also, the instructions are in an unidentifiable (to me) Asian language as well as Polish and Czech, with a German sticker slapped on listing ingredients and nutritional info, but there are Ikea-esque drawings showing me how to add the noodles to boiling water. Apparently the desire for hot, unhealthy, curly noodles is universal. I found some with a picture of mushrooms on it, which was good enough for me. While I ate it, I read in the Berlin paper today that Momofuku Ando, the inventor of ramen noodles, recently passed away. Weird, huh? Maybe my stomach knew.
