A long day
Today I had to stop class for the umpteenth time to ask two of my 8th graders to stop making out during the lesson. Later, I was helping a student with a worksheet when he pointed out that I had a spitwad stuck in my ponytail. Then I learned that an executive decision has been made to lock all the bathrooms in the school (so students will stop vandalizing them). Then I learned that my key only works on two of the bathrooms, that the computers won't be working again until summer, and that of the seven more hours I teach this week, five have been cancelled. I'm trying to remember what a great learning experience this is (see how many times I learned something today?), but sometimes I think there's got to be a better way to learn.
When I came home, I read an article in the paper about the anniversary of the Rütli School crisis and how much things have improved in Neukölln schools. Good thing I wasn't here last year, huh?

I would institute a full scale policy of student abuse...worst case scenario you get fired and then you can come home and ride the rails with me.
I agree, get the ruler out and pretend you're in catholic school. Getting smacked by nuns kept me in line!
My second grade Sister didn't use a ruler. She would yell and give you an icy cold stare that can only come from a crabby old penguin. Needless to say she doesn't get a Christmas card from me.
