DIY

You may not know this about me, but I have these DIY home improvement urges sometimes. I think I get that from Mom, the only person to ever give me a hammer and ask me to help tear down a wall. Luckily, I live with Inga, who also has a serious home improvement problem.
There is a photo of me from a long time ago taking a hammer to some tiles at the house. Papa, do you know what the story behind that is? Looks like I haven't changed that much....But these broken tiles are going to good use! Inga and I decided against the beige, right angle look, and made a pretty mosaic out of smashed tiles (and some dishes we broke) instead.
As you can see, it's very serious work.
It is definitely a work in progress, but we hope to complete it before I move back to the states. Julian, the other roommate, was going to do the caulking and stuff for us, but he's in the hospital still (looooong story for a different post), so we might have to do it ourselves. If you don't hear from me this week, that's my excuse!

Lindsay - The tile smashing I suspect you remember involved the thick Mexican tile in the entry way (still under sink & stool in the black bathroom). That was part of your mother's strategy to "open up" the dining room area by tearing out the wall (with the famous story of where does the upstairs toilet pipe go?)The tile was set in heavy wire and concrete - too much for you children to actually do so I ended up (as I recall, at least) having to finish tearing it out and then hiring Mark Francis to come in and move the pipe and finish the wall...A long time ago.....
